Goats Just Wanna Have Fun

Saturday, 4 May 2019

Let’s face it, if you are as sharp and curious as the average goat then life in the farmyard could become just a little bit dull.  However, when a flexible steel ribbon is placed inside your pen for no apparent reason then a use for it just has to be sound.

This video shows that just like most other living things on this wonderful planet of ours, goats just wanna have fun.

An Alphabet of Animals

Sunday, 18 June 2017

We thought we would have a little fun and create a list of what we think are the best and most unusual collective nouns for animals. Of course, in the tradition of Ark in Space we are including the best images we could find to illustrate them. You can go check them out on the internet we did not make these up! So, here they are - an A-Z of collective nouns, a veritable alphabet of animals.

A byke of ants
We are not sure what it means, however.  Yet it was still more interesting than the word we would normally use - swarm

A cauldron of bats

Surf City Surf Dogs Catch the Waves

Sunday, 14 May 2017

Dogs are like people in some respects.  Many are homebodies and prefer their creature comforts.  Others prefer to be a little more adventurous. Although not a species renowned for its participation in extreme sports there is a cross section of the canine community which likes nothing better than to take to the waves – on surf boards.

Now in its fifth year the Surf City Surf Dog event, held in Huntington Beach, California brings together over forty surf fans together with their human companions who are there to ensure that all the fun is safe for the surfer dogs.  This fund-raising event helps to raise awareness of various dog related causes, including animal rescue and medical care.

Quiz: Can You Name All 15 of These Big Cat and Wild Cat Species?

Sunday, 22 March 2015

Most of us know a lion or a tiger when we see one but some of the other big cats can be a little more difficult to name.  Throw in a number of wild cat species and it becomes more difficult to name them all.  Just how many of these amazing animals can you name here?  The quiz is multiple choice so you do have some chance at least so why not give it a go?

If the answer you choose goes GREEN, then you got it right.  If it goes RED then you got it wrong.  You will also see how many others chose the different answers (in terms of a percentage).

Snow Games

Monday, 18 February 2013

This will make you smile, I hope. There have been a few videos recently of various animals playing in the snow – and here is another one to add to the collection.  This one, however, is a little different because the dog playing in the snow has been captured in slow motion.  Barolo, who owns filmmaker Andrey Blanco, has been filmed at 240 frames per second.  So, you get every jump, every leap and – you swear – a dog can smile!

Barolo is absolutely full of life – joie de vivre is in his every motion.  What a pleasure is must be to accompany him through life!

A Clockwork Corn

Sunday, 11 April 2010

Squirrels + Corn = Video Opportunity. Watch this marvellous time lapse video of a bunch of squirrels (can't just be the same one, surely?) attacking their favorite food of the winter - good and healthy corn straight off the cob! And boy, do they tuck in!

The time lapse technique is used wonderfully here and it is fun watching the cob spin around as the squirrels devour it (hence the brilliant name for the piece I guess!). One to watch again and again!

This video was made by Vimeo member Mark Svoboda and was shot in an approximately two hour period.  As it is produced by Backyard Boredom Pictures, we are assuming that it was shot in Mr Svoboda's back yard - but of course we could be wrong on that point.  Wherever it was shot - thank you for a few minutes of great fun!

Home Sweet Home

Sunday, 28 March 2010

It's a tough life, being a cat sometimes.  Just that need to be alone sometimes gets the better of you and when those humans really annoy you, then anywhere will do.  Just as long as it's nice and quiet - we don't really care!  Hey, you with the camera, clear off!  Can't you see I just want a little of my own space?

A Day in the Life of Romeo the Cat

Tuesday, 23 March 2010

This is charming.  Romeo is a cat and, like other cats he likes to spend his days doing, well, cat like things.  Here, his human companion Daniel Lowe, records a day in his life.  Romeo is without doubt the star of this particlular show but he has one or two co-stars in for the ride too.

This is just a lovely short to sit back, watch and relax with - it doesn't pretend to be anything else.  However, is is a great snapshot of a day in the life of one very cool cat!

Cat Etiquette 101 - Posture

Wednesday, 17 March 2010

Correct posture is everything - a single paw out of place and you can, very quickly, look rather louche (or just down right trashy).  This cat is called Sofia, which is a classy name indeed.  However, this feline friend lets the side down badly by plonking herself down in a position that is just a little less than ladylike.  A how not to do it, indeed!  The cat will feature large in the Ark In Space, so it is quite right that one should be the subject of our very first proper post.  We hope in the future to bring you many more excellent pictures of cats - and perhaps some classier ones too!
