Fight!

Saturday, 10 December 2016

Sometimes it is simply play, at others it is in deadly earnest.  Yet when animals fight there is something that draws us to watch despite the potential fatal outcome.  Perhaps it appears to something visceral and basic in our instincts - or perhaps we just like to watch a good old fashioned tooth and claw fight.

Hey! A Dog isn't just for Christmas - it's for Halloween Too!

Saturday, 31 October 2015

Every year on October 31 the ghouls and ghosts rise - and people make fools of themselves all over the world by wearing ridiculous outfits.  Well, Halloween isn't just for humans, you know!  Here we bring together some wonderful shots of pets of all sizes (OK, dogs - they are the only ones who seem to be able to put up with it!) in their Halloween outfits.  Enjoy this great set of pictures of the dogs of the world dressing up in their Halloween costumes.

The New Guinea Singing Dog

Sunday, 30 May 2010

The New Guinea Singing Dog is thought to be just about the oldest domesticated breed of dog in the world. That makes it special, but what really does make this dog stand out is the way that it sings. Yes, sings. This is no yappy, barky, howly singer - this dog sings in a way that is quite unique. Unless you are a whale in which case you might get a bit miffed that this canine virtuoso has rained on your parade somewhat. Click on the link above or on the picture to visit a larger article by Mark Gordon Brown on this cool canine and hear the dog song for yourself.

The Biggest Dogs in the World

Monday, 5 April 2010

They may be way too big for everyone's taste but there are some enormous dogs in the world. The English Mastiff is terms of sheer mass is the biggest of them all and its size is something to be believed. This dog is pure power - if any superhero needed a dog then this may well be their first choice. The English Mastiff can weigh up to a whopping two hundred and fifty pounds.

That is quite a weight when he says hello to you in the morning by jumping on to your chest (of course, well trained they are probably more thoughtful than that!). As well as being the biggest dog in the world it is also recongnized as the oldedst dog breed in the United Kingdom (proabably - there is a debate but we go with this guy. Well - are you going to argue?).

What are the other ten? Click HERE or on the picture above to find out.
